The GIS division of the City of Amarillo’s Planning Department maintains interactive maps that include information on zoning, lot dimensions, various zip codes, census tracts both in Potter and Randall Counties, aviation zone, school district boundaries, as well as numerous others. The Planning Department utilizes GIS daily to detect and review growth management problems, answer questions, and analyze data. Other City Departments, county agencies, and the general public can purchase high-quality maps.
GIS or Geographic Information Systems is a computer system designed to allow users to collect, manage, and analyze large volumes of attributed data. In many instances, Planners can view, interpret, and visualize data in map, report, and chart form in order to reveal patterns and trends.
