 Municipal Garage
 Municipal Garage maintains approximately 840 pieces of City-owned equipment. This equipment is "rented" to the individual departments, instead of being purchased and maintained by each department. Equipment reutllization programs have proven to be successful in utilizing vehicles until they can no longer serve the City in any capacity. Vehicles are also routinely refabricated to meet various departmental needs.
     Solid Waste Collection/Disposal
 Service and Information
 Brush/Junk Collection
 The Solid Waste Collection Department operates a fixed route brush collection service in addition to the regular collection. This operation includes the collection of large or bulky items such as discarded appliances, furniture, and other junk. If planning to do tree trimmings or discarding large items call 378-6813 for your areas regularly scheduled collection.
 Brush/Tree-limb Collection Sites
 There are three sites for brush/tree limb collections Broadway and Hastings; 34th and Eastern; also Arden and Soncy. This material is ground up to wood chips on-site and is free for public pickup and use. For more information call 378-6813.
 Bulky Items
 Special collection of large, bulky items can be arranged by calling 378-6813.
 Christmas Tree Recycling Program
 Annually from Christmas through February 1, the City provides Christmas Tree recycling. Residents may bring their trees to specific locations where the trees are mulched and free mulch is in turn provided if desired. Call 378-6813 for more information.
 Commercial Refuse Collection
 To establish new service or to change existing service for commercial refuse collection call 378-6812.
 Dumpsters
 To report a problem or damage to a dumpster, or to request a dumpster call 378-6813.
 Hazardous Material Disposal
 For information on the proper disposal of hazardous materials including paint thinners, paints, and other hazardous household chemicals contact the Regional Office of Environmental Consumer Health Protection in Lubbock, Texas at (806) 797-4331.
 Landfill Acceptable Items
 The City of Amarillo operates a Type 1 landfill. This allows the landfill to accept only nonhazardous municipal solid waste. The landfill cannot accept large quantities of household chemicals, oil based paints, motor oil, vehicle batteries, commercial chemicals, or asbestos waste. For more information or specific acceptable items call 359-2056.
 Landfill, Fees
 Landfill dumping fees are based on weight of material delivered for disposal. There is no fee for residents of Amarillo discarding normal household trash or garbage from a residence in Amarillo where a sanitation charge is currently being paid.  Recycling
 The City of Amarillo operates recycling collection centers at S.E. 27th Avenue and Hayes and at four fire stations located throughout the City. For information on these centers call 378-6813. For information on private commercial Recycling Centers check the yellow pages in your phone directory.  Driveway Approach Inspections
 For an inspection of a driveway approach permitted through the Traffic Engineering Department contact the Engineering Department at 378-9334.
 Driveway Approach Standards
 The Traffic Engineering Department supplies information on driveway approach standards.
 Elevations
 The Engineering Department has elevations shown on contour maps and benchmark locations. Contact the Engineering Department.
 Engineering Services
 For information on the extent of assistance and fees charged for design, and engineering services for subdivision work in relationship to streets or private pavement projects call the Engineering Department.
 Flood Hazard Information

 Maps
 For review or copies of aerial photographs, city base maps, paving maps, contour maps, drainage maps, and floodway maps contact the Engineering Department.  Paving Regulations
 The Engineering Department handles inquiries on paving regulations established by the City.
 Right-of-Way Locations
 The Engineering Department will assist in determining property lines where they abut rights-of-way or easements.
 Storm Sewers/Storm Water Management
 The Engineering Department oversees the regulations for storm sewers and stormwater management established by the City, including records of existing facilities.
 Street Construction
 To build a street contact the Engineering Department for street standards and platting procedures. Existing streets under construction or being repaved are performed by private contractors through contracts administered by the Engineering Department.  Street Overlay
 An annual program of arterial street overlay is administered by the Engineering Department. For information on residential overlay see sealcoating under Street Department.
 Street Pavement Assesments
 The Engineering Department prepares and maintains the records on street and alley paving assessments when property owners are sharing in the cost to have a street or alley improved.
 Street Paving Petitions
 The Engineering Department maintains the records and offers assistance in explaining the procedures for petitions by property owners to have streets or alleys paved.
 Street Standards
 For information on the construction standards of streets or allays to be built in the City of Amarillo or its Extraterritorial Jurisdiction (ETJ five miles outside the City limits boundaries) contact the Engineering Department.
 Subdivision Platting
 Subdivision platting procedures are outlined in the City's Subdivision Ordinance administered by the Planning Department.
 Tours
 The Engineering Department does perform tours of its department for groups or individuals interested in the operation of the City's Engineering Department.
 Utility Easements
 For determination of location, information or preparation of public utility easements or drainage easements contact the Engineering Department.
 Variances, Flood Regulations
 The Engineering Department administers requests for a variance from the current Base Flood Elevation for certain playas.

 Service and Information
 Asphalt Repair/Construction
 Major and minor asphalt repair of City streets and alleys is the Street Department's responsibility.
 Barricade Emergency
 Contact the Street Department for barricades needed on city streets when an accident, flooding, or some other emergency occurs. For after business hours emergency barricade needs, please contact the Police Department at 378-3038.
 Barricade, Missing
 To report missing, permanent, or emergency barricades,or to request an emergency-barricade call the Street Department at 378-6815. After business hours or for emergencies, please contact the Police Department at 378-3038. Information on permits to block streets is listed under "Traffic Engineering Department."
 Barricade, Permanent
 Installation and maintenance of permanent barricades on City streets or property is handled by the Street Department.
 Barricade, Temporary
 For an emergency, see "Barricade Emergency." If needed for a non-emergency function look under "Public Works, Traffic Engineering."
 Concrete Repair/Replacement
 The Street Department is responsible for maintaining City streets, curbs and gutters, medians, drains, and disabled sidewalk ramps. Sidewalk maintenance is the responsibility of the abutting property owner.
 Crack Pouring
 The Street Department operates a scheduled crack pouring program in conjunction with the sealcoating cycle. To report severe street cracks or obtain information regarding crack pouring in your neighborhood contact the Street Department.
 De-Icing of Roads
 The Street Department is responsible for de-icing City bridges and signalized intersections. The Texas Department of Transportation is responsible for de-icing interstates and other state highway bridges and signalized intersections and may be contacted at 356-3361.
 Debris Removal
 For removal of debris or litter on City streets contact the Street Department.
 Drainage Ditch Cleaning
 To report problems with a drainage ditch contact the Street Department.
 Drainage Maintenance
 Streets and Alleys: The Street Department is responsible for grading and maintaining streets and alleys for effective drainage. Storm Drain Inlet: To report a problem with a storm drain inlet, contact the Street Department 378-6815.
 Driveway Culvert Pipe Installation
 The Street Department will provide for the installation of pipe culverts for private driveways with pipe supplied by the property owner. For a determination of the size of pipe culvert needed or to have it installed after it has been purchased contact the Street Department.
 Guardrails
 Contact the Street Department to report damage to a City guardrail. Contact the Texas Department of Transportation at 356-3361 if the guardrail is located along an interstate or state highway.
 Manhole
 Missing, broken, damaged manholes or manholes needing repair should be reported to the Street Department or the Wastewater Collection Department at 378-6827. After business hours call 378-3019.
 Mowing, Right-of-Way
 The control of vegetation along rights-of-way and medians of arterial and major City streets is the responsibility of the Street Department. Each property owner is responsible for the section of right-of-way adjacent to their home or business.
 Pothole Repairs
 To report a pothole or a street needing repair contact the Street Department.
 Sanding
 The Street Department will sand City streets and alleys where oil spills or similar hazards occur. For sanding on snow covered roads see de-icing, City bridges, etc.
 Sealcoating
 The Street Department operates a preventative maintenance program for the City's residential streets through sealcoating. The sealcoating program operates on a ten-year cycle covering all City streets except major thoroughfares. For information on sealcoating or scheduled sealcoating in your neighborhood contact the Street Department.
 Slope Maintenance, City Owned Lakes
 The Street Department is responsible for the maintenance of City-owned lakes including slope maintenance and debris removal.
 Snow Removal, City Streets
 Snow removal from City arterial streets and bridges is the responsibility of the Street Department. Snow removal on interstate and state highways is the responsibility of the Texas Department of Transportation, which may be contacted at 356-3361.

 Utility Cuts
 When a section of a City street or alley needs to be cut for the installation of utilities a permit is required. For requests or information on utility cut permits contact the Street Department.

 School Crossing Guards
 For information regarding school crossing guards or to request a guard call the Traffic Engineering Department at 378-6294.
 Speed Humps

 Speed Limits
 For information about existing speed limits, or to request speed limit changes call the Traffic Engineering Department at 378-6296.
 Street Closure
 For information about streets closed due to construction, or for permission to close a street for block parties, call the Traffic Engineering Department at 378-6297.
 Street Lighting
 To report street lights out call Xcel Energy at 356-4300. To request the installation of street lights call the Traffic Engineering Department at 378-6800.
 Street Signs
 To report missing or damaged street name signs call the Traffic Engineering Department at 378-6800.
 Traffic Counts
 For information about the volume of traffic on City streets call the Traffic Engineering Department at 378-6294.
 Traffic Signals
 To report a traffic signal that is not working properly call the Traffic Engineering Department at 378-6800 during regular working hours. After business hours, weekends, and holidays call the Police Department at 378-3038. For information about signal operations, signal design, or new signal installation call the Traffic Engineering Department at 378-6802.
 Traffic Signs
 To report missing or damaged traffic control signs call the Traffic Engineering Department at 378-6800. To request installation of a traffic control sign call the Traffic Engineering Department at 378-6294. After hours, on weekends, and holidays report missing stop and yield signs to the Police Department at 378-3038.
 Traffic Studies
 Traffic studies are the basis for installation of new traffic signals, traffic signs, crosswalks, speed limit changes, etc. To request a traffic study call the Traffic Engineering Department at 378-6296.
 Visibility
 To report trees, shrubs, or other obstructions that block traffic signs or that obstruct a driver's view at an intersection call the Traffic Engineering Department at 378-6297.
