Bi-City County Public Health Board

Administered by the Bi-City County Health District. The City of Amarillo Public Health, Environmental Health, Animal Control, and WIC Departments provide staff support for this Board; seven board members who are residents of either Potter or Randall County for at least three years prior to appointment, of which two are appointed by the City of Amarillo; meetings are held bi-monthly on the fourth Tuesday at 7:00 PM at the Environmental Health Department, at 821 S. Johnson Street.

The Departments of Environmental Health, Public Health, WIC Nutrition, and Animal Control report to the BOH. The BOH is comprised of seven volunteer citizens appointed by Potter, Randall, City of Canyon and City of Amarillo Commissions. The BOH makes recommendations to the Public Health Administrator and the four Commissions. A physician is appointed by the BOH to serve as Health Authority for the two counties to administer state and local laws relating to public health.

The Bi-City County Public Health Board acts as an advisory board to the governing bodies of the participating entities (City of Amarillo, City of Canyon, Potter County and Randall County) and makes recommendations from time to time through the minutes of its meetings on matters pertaining to public health. The board has the power and duty to advise the health authority and administrators of the public health district. Further, the board makes quarterly reports of the activities and the financial conditions of the district to each of the participating entities.
