| | This program helps low to moderate income families who qualify for a mortgage loan from a participating lender. The City funding can pay up to 75% of the down payment and closing costs incurred for the purchase of a single family home. The maximum grant amount is $5,000. Interested home buyers must apply to local mortgage lenders and must complete home buyer education seminars. Homes to be purchased must be inside the City limits of Amarillo and meet HUDs Housing Quality Standards. | | Grants to repair hazardous or life threatening housing conditions are available to very low income homeowners living inside the City limits. The maximum grant available is $3,500. Emergency repairs include replacement of water, sewer or gas lines, interior plumbing problems, water heaters, open flame gas heaters, roofs, etc. Renovations to make homes more accessible to persons with disabilities are eligible. Homeowners must apply in the Community Development office, Room 104, City Hall. Homeowners must bring a copy of the deed to their property and proof of income. | | One time grants to rehabilitate homes are available to very low income homeowners living inside the City limits. The amount of the grant is limited by the value of the home after rehabilitation. | | This program helps investors in rehabilitating sub-standard rental units. The owner must make all of the units available to low income families for a 5 to 10 year affordability period. Property owners may receive a no interest, deferred payment loan for up to 50% of the eligible project costs. The property owner must obtain the balance of funding for the project from personal funds or private lenders. |

| | Located at 200 S. Tyler, the Resource Center houses nine local agencies creating easy access to community resources for those in need. Services for the homeless include: a maildrop; shower and laundry facilities; a day shelter; primary medical and dental care; mental health screening; and a telephone bank. Services for low income families include: food, clothing and furniture assistance; youth and family counseling; adult eye care; maternity, adoption, and foster care services; employment assistance; information and referral.
